If there's one track on the wishlist of most bike racing game fans, it's the Snaefell Mountain Course that hosts the yearly Isle of Man TT. In fact it's been nearly a decade since the Isle of Man TT has been represented in a racing game with Jester Interactive's TT Superbike Legends back in 2008 on the PS2.
Over the past few years we've had our hopes raised that we'd see the TT Mountain Course appear in a modern racing game. Milestone's bike racing IP Ride seemed like a golden opportunity opportunity, but we were left disappointed by its glaring omission in Ride's sparse tracklist. Rumours that Polyphony were going to feature the Isle of Man TT in a future Gran Turismo game were also rife after they were spotted on location a few years ago, but nothing has been announced yet. We can finally rejoice however, as an official Isle of Man TT game is finally happening.
Today publisher BigBen Interactive announced TT Isle of Man – Ride on the Edge in development by French firm Kylotonn due for release in 2017 on PS4, Xbox One and PC. Kylotonn are best known for developing WRC 5 released last year and are currently working on FlatOut 4: Total Insanity. The announcement comes after BigBen Interactive reached an agreement with the Isle of Man Government Department of Economic Development, who own the commercial rights to the Isle of Man TT races, to exclusively produce TT Isle of Man – Ride on the Edge.
BigBen Interactive and Kylotonn are said to already be hard at work assessing and accurately mapping the iconic 37¾ mile TT Mountain Course. TT Isle of Man – Ride on the Edge will feature many of the leading teams and riders, with team liveries and bike manufacturers all represented. Due for release in 2017 on PC and current-gen console formats, TT Isle of Man – Ride on the Edge is still a long way off, sadly, so no screenshots or videos have been released yet.
“The partnership between Bigben Interactive and the Isle of Man Government represents an opportunity not only to generate additional commercial income but also to increase the profile of the TT Races and broaden the event’s appeal to a wider, younger demographic working alongside a world class partner in the gaming world,” David Cretney MLC, the Department of Economic Development’s political representative for Tourism and Motorsport commented
“For several years now, our team works together with Kylotonn’s developers to create and offer the best depictions of some of the most spectacular racing events like the Isle of Man TT races or the World Rally Championship.”, Benoît Clerc, Head of Software at Bigben Interactive, added. “By creating 1/1 the iconic 37¾ miles of the race, we already know that all the motorbike fans will feel the speed and the excitement of being part of the Isle of Man TT races".
Originating in 1907, the Isle of Man TT represents one of the leading motorbike racing series. It's also one of the deadliest: the annual race on public roads has claimed the lives of some of the sport's fearless riders practically every year. Something tells me they'll be wanting to keep the age rating down on this one.
To give you an idea of just how intense the Isle of Man TT is, here's an on-board view of Guy Martin reaching speeds of 200 mph on the public roads that make up the circuit.
Are you excited about the prospect of finally being able to race the infamous TT Mountain Course in a modern racing game?
