This week Fanatec revealed the much anticipated Gran Turismo DD Pro Wheel. Essentially the PlayStation version of the Fanatec CSL DD released earlier this year. Of course the DD Pro includes the official Gran Turismo rim, designed in cooperation with Polyphony. This rim featuring a design similar to that of the Thrustmaster wheel, it is essentially an evolution. However, progress appears to have been made in the various ergonomics to maximise parameters players can adapt on the fly. One of the biggest drawbacks to the Thrustmaster wheel being the stitching on the inside of the rim, I encountered this and the stitching was so rough it would give me blisters on my thumbs, ultimately preventing me from using the rim. However, it does look like progress has also been made here as well, and I look forward to a hands-on at some point if Fanatec provide VVV the access.

Fanatec, CEO, Thomas Jackermeier commented: “The community has asked for an affordable direct drive wheel with load cell pedal and we took a lot of efforts to make the impossible come true. The steering wheel was entirely designed in collaboration with Polyphony Digital and we worked closely together to make everything work perfectly with Gran Turismo™Sport and the upcoming Gran Turismo™ 7 which is announced for release in 2022. Direct Drive is the new standard in sim racing and every racer who tried it once will never go back to a belt drive wheel.” There is no doubt this is another huge succes sstory for Fanatec after having already agreed rights as the eclusive wheel supplier for both F1 and WRC Esports championships. Gran Tursimo 7 will be a huge title 2022 and Fanatec will benefit hughely from the exposure this brings. We’ll keep an eye out for future updates and you can expect to see our review, should we get a hands-on in the future. Spec, futher details and the official trailer below.
