One of the most intriguing games featured in our exhaustive 2014 racing games preview was The ’90s Arcade Racer, a colourful homage to the heyday of arcade racing games where compulsive titles such as Daytona USA, Indy 500 and and Ferrari F355 Challenge dominated arcade machines and devoured huge chunks of change from our pockets.
A new blog post from the developer has provided an update on its progress. Currently, work on porting the PC version to Wii U is underway, which is proving to be a challenging process. However, despite some intiial setbacks, the end reuslt is proving formidable as the developer confirmed that the Wii U is “very capable of running the game at 60fps at 720p.”
As for when we can expect to take a trip down memory lane in The ’90s Racer, the only update the developer could provide was that the game is on track for a “mid 2014” release.
The ’90s Racer came to light following a successful Kickstarter campaign by Pelikan13, and is currently scheduled for Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, Android and Wii U. We’ll certainly be keeping an eye on this one.
