Game: Need for Speed

Platform: PC, PS4, XBox One

Publisher: Electronic Arts

Release Date: 03/11/2015

For the first time in 12 years, Need for Speed missed its annual slot last year, as Ghost Games UK were allotted an extra year of development time for the next full entry in the series due this year. So, to plug the gap EA announced Need for Speed: No Limits, a new mobile spin-off developed by FireMonkeys who are best known for their mobile Real Racing series.

We've seen very little of No Limits since its unveil last year, but EA has now released a brief gameplay glimpse showcasing all the hallmarks we've come to expect from the long-running series, from high speed street racing and police chases, to drifting.

Visually, there's no denying that it looks stunning for a mobile game. It's a testament to how far graphics have come on mobile devices: ""We're constantly amazed by the power and performance we're able to get out of the latest phones and tablets and think you will be too," EA said in the announcement. It's just a shame people will instantly write it off for being free-to-play with optional in-game purchases. We'll have to wait and see how much it hampers your progress without paying.

"Purchases will allow players to improve their cars and achieve higher levels of success more quickly, but are not required to complete the game. We look forward to giving millions of players the opportunity to experience ongoing updates with new content and features," the developers clarified in an online FAQ. They also confirmed that online multiplayer won't be in the initial release, but they're "actively adding new features for players to enjoy."
