SEGA's Sonic: All Stars Racing Transformed has been unleashed onto iOS and Android mobile devices following its original release on PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U, PC and PS Vita in 2012.

Content has been unsurprisingly slimmed down, but it looks to be an otherwise faithful port with multiple control methods optimised for mobiles. 10 iconic SEGA characters feature with more to be added at a later date and the same fast, fun and frantic kart racing gameplay is intact, with dynamic tracks and transformable vehicles.

New to the mobile version is an extra character in the form of Shemmune's Ryo driving an OutRun arcade cabinet. While this is his first appearance in Sonic All Stars Racing Transformed, Ryo appeared in the original Sonic All Stars Racing, albeit in a different kart.

An in-depth online multiplayer component is also promised at a later date. The original release was riotous fun, so the fact the mobile version will also have competitive multiplayer could make this one of the most essential mobile racing games on the market.

The best feature of all, though, is the price. At the time of writing, Sonic: All Stars Racing Transformed is available to buy for just £0.69 on the UK Google Play store, despite being $4.99 on the US store.
