Project CARS developer Slightly Mad Studios has stated that the future of its Mad Box console is uncertain following the loss of some investors.

Speaking with PCGamesInsider, online marketing director Nathan Bell confirmed the loss of two of its investors as a result of Google recently announcing their streaming platform Stadia.

We had some solid investment lined up but Google saying ‘the future of gaming isn’t in a box’ hasn’t done us any favours,” said Bell. “Two investors pulled out after the announcement of Stadia. All I can say at this stage is the future of the project is questionable.”

Slightly Mad Studios recently withdrew its EUIPO filing to trademark their “Mad Box” console name. According to PCGamesInsider, Slightly Mad Studios filed the “Mad Box” trademark on January 3, 2019, just a single day after Slightly Mad Studios CEO Ian Bell revealed the console on Twitter.

On March 25, 2019, a French-based game company called Madbox filed an opposition to Slightly Mad Studios’ filing stating a likelihood of public confusion given both Madbox and the Mad Box console would be operating in the very same sector. Slightly Mad Studios withdrew their application for the Mad Box trademark on April 5.
