Following on from our recent first look, we’ve once again been lucky enough to get hands-on with a preview build of FIA European Truck Racing Championship ahead of its release next month across the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch.

As the name suggests, the title is the official truck racing simulator of the FIA European Truck Racing Championship, giving you the chance to board a 1000+ bhp racing truck as you compete at some of the most iconic tracks across the world.

In our E3 2019 preview video, we take to the track to compete in a couple of races at different times of day and weather conditions to give you a good idea of what the game has to offer when it launches next month.

Kicking off, we head to the Italian track of Misano with the sun setting for a quick two-lap race. We were initially surprised by the various layers of audio which provides a surprisingly realistic sensation of piloting one of these 5-tonne beasts.

After two laps of a hard-fought race at Misano, we head to the famous Le Mans track in treacherous conditions. Trucks can be seen sliding around and bumping into each other in a frantic start early on. Once the field settles, our concern turns to our brake water – a 200-litre reservoir that we can dip into at any moment at the touch of a button.

Brakes need to be kept within an ideal temperature window, too hot and your brakes will fade, too cool and the brakes won’t have as much stopping power.

On the very first lap of the Le Mans track, we managed to hit two trackside bollards – one more and we will incur a 5-second penalty. As a result, you need to be aware of the position of every potentially dangerous bollard at any track, if you take too much of an apex, or run wide out of an exit, you run the risk of hitting one.

Avoiding track bollards, managing your brake temperatures, keeping an eye on your water levels all while racing your 5-tonne machine keeps you very much on your toes throughout any race.

You can see how we performed at each race courtesy of our latest preview for FIA European Truck Racing Championship below.
