Sega has released a brand new Team Sonic Racing video from the Tokyo Game Show, where Sonic Series Producer Takashi Lizuka provides an inside look into the development process of the upcoming racer.

Iizuka discusses his inspiration behind the game’s team-based racing style and we also get a glimpse at some of the courses including Wisp Circuit, Ice Mountain, and Market Street.

Iizuka also explains the various playstyles and character class types which are governed by the three stats of “Speed,” “Technique,” and “Power” giving players the chance to create a perfectly balanced team.

You can check out the video (and find out Iizuka’s favourite Team Sonic Racing character) below.

Developed by Sumo Digital (the studio behind the two Sonic All-Stars Racing releases), Team Sonic Racing focuses on team-based racing where players work together to defend against opposing team members and share the effects of speed boosts and power-ups.

The title has 15 playable characters with nine unique upgrades, and a host of local and online multiplayer modes, as well as a Time Trial mode. The racer also has support for 12-player online and four-player split-screen local multiplayer races.

Team Sonic Racing is set to release physically and digitally on May 21, 2019 across the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Switch with a digital-only release on PC. You can pre-order the physical edition of Team Sonic Racing on the official website, details of digital pre-order will be available at a later date.
