GT developer Polyphony Digital has confirmed its GPS data visualiser system will be added to Gran Turismo 6 on April 7th, as part of the '1.06' update.

Allegedly a feature that's been in development since 2007, the GPS Visualiser will allow players to import driving data from compatible cars into the game via a USB memory stick, and display it as a replay in Gran Turismo 6.

Beyond rendering a real-life car as a 'ghost' model, the GPS Visualiser – in conjunction with the 'Data Logger' feature that's yet to be added to Gran Turismo 6 – can also be used to analyse sector and overall lap times, vehicle speed, what revs-per-minute the engine is at, steering angle, and throttle and brake pedal depression.

Currently, this system is only compatible with Toyota's "Sports Drive Logger" application, which will initially be made available exclusivley for the Toyota GT86 sports car on June 2nd later this year.

According to TRD, Toyota's in-house autosports division and the main developer of the Sports Drive Logger, only three tracks will be supported on the system from launch (Fuji Speedway, Suzuka International Racing Course and the Tsukuba Circuit), with compatability for additional motorsports venues said to be expected "in the future".

More details regarding Gran Turismo 6's 1.06 update are expected to be disclosed by Sony Computer Entertainment and Polyphony Digital on the day of the patch's release next week.
