Turn 10 Studios debuted a new Forza Motorsport 6 trailer during the Xbox briefing at Gamescom today. The trailer entitled “Racing in the Rain” focuses on how Turn 10 approaches simulating wet weather effects in their game.
Racing in the wet in Forza Motorsport 6 seems like it will be very special indeed, rain will impact races in ways never seen before in a racing game. Turn 10 have added puddles into the mix which will prove to be very treacherous indeed. In the video below Forza Motorsport 6 creative director Bill Giese explains that the puddles have been painstakingly recreated through research that involved going through old racing footage and by compiling on-track measurements. Using these methods the dev team were about to recreate where exactly every single puddle will be placed.
“I get to drive multi-million dollar simulators and none of them that I've experienced have had wet conditions built into their models.” said IndyCar driver Josef Newgarden. “So for Forza to be at the cutting edge of that is pretty cool” he continued.
Puddles will present a real problem to drivers, you'll need to be cautious when going through large puddles to stop your car from spinning out, you're probably best off to avoid them altogether if possible. The race track however isn't the only thing to be effected by the wet weather conditions, the edges of the track are also waterlogged which means you'll need to be careful not to send the car too wide out of a turn or you could face more trouble.
