Release Date: 02/02/2016

Close to two months ago SCS Software (SCS) announced that the map scale for American Truck Simulator is set to expand and have now revealed the very first screenshots showcasing the size increase.

American Truck Simulaor rescale project screenshots preview larger mapThe expansion, which will be released for free, will see the scale ratio jump from an already impressive 1:35 to 1:20 (putting it in line with Euro Truck Simulator 2’s scale incidentally). According to the development team the expansion in size equates to 75% longer roads outside of the built up city areas.

To accompany the upcoming free update SCS will also retouch existing roads and intersections and the day/night cycle will be slowed as well as increased intervals between rest and refuel stops. Furthermore the expanded map size will free up more space for SCS to develop future map expansion in the more densely populated areas.

No release date yet been announced for the map scale update but back in June SCS did comment that the initial rescale process would take “several months” before they could move on to building new areas. Taking that into account it’s probably wise not to expect it to release this year but perhaps early next year, we’ll keep you guys up to date on any developments as soon as we can.

Check out the first rescale screenshots in the gallery below.
