Ferrari has confirmed it will be participating in this year’s F1 Esports Series competition, having just founded a brand new sim racing team.

According to the Italian racing squad, the new esports team will run as part of the Scuderia’s Ferrari Driver Academy programme – which helped launch the Formula One careers of drivers such as Charles Leclerc, Sergio Perez and the late Jules Bianchi.

Ferrari says it wants its new “Driver Academy esports Team” to “involve several areas of the company” and “run across various projects”. The first of these will be the 2019 F1 Esports Series, which kicks off in earnest on 17th July when the Pro Draft driver selection round begins.

With Ferrari’s involvement, the 2019 F1 Esports Series will mark the first time all 10 teams on the Formula One grid will be represented in the sport’s sim-racing off-shoot. In the previous two seasons, the only Formula One outfit that didn’t participate was Ferrari.

Ferrari has said it will reveal its full Ferrari Driver Academy esports Team driver line-up at a later date. As with every other participating team, the Scuderia will need to select at least one of its drivers for this year’s F1 Esports Series from the 2019 Pro Draft driver line-up.
