The upcoming DirectX 12 programming interface for PC and Xbox One should bring noticeable performance boosts to Project Cars, Slightly Mad Studios head Ian Bell has revealed.
As stated on the official Project CARS forums, the new tool will improve Project CARS' performance on PC by "30-40%", in comparison with how the game currently runs with DirectX 11.
Project CARS players on the Xbox One should also feel the benefits of DirectX 12 once it's brought to the console, albeit without such massive performance increases – according to Ian Bell, DirectX 12 will "add probably add another 7% or more".
This is presumably on top of the Xbox One version of Project CARS with the recently-released v1.03 patch installed, which allegedly improved performance by 5-7%. Another patch due "very soon" is also expected to improve performance by another 5-7% as well.
DirectX 12 is expected to be released on PC later this year, though it's currently unknown when the system will be brought to the Xbox One.
