To some, living the life of a long distance lorry driver doesn’t sound like the most exciting premise for a video game. And yet, surprisingly, the Euro Truck Simulator series turned out to be a surprise hit, a game where you spend most of your time obeying the speed limit on near-identical highways. It was oddly therapeutic. And now, keen not to let the US market feel neglected, it’s getting an Americanised sequel: the named American Truck Simulator.
Turns out The Crew won’t be the only detailed game depiction of the US this year, as the American Truck Simulator will contain over 100 cities to truck around in. Expect lots of highways and endless straight roads.
Little else is known about the project, currently. When asked about a potential release date, SCS admitted that “it’s a moving target.” “For almost half a year, we have been adjusting and re-adjusting our internal plans, and we may still need to do it again,” they commented. Negotiations with US truck manufacutrers are still underway.
In the meantime, these latest screenshots introduce us to California and the Kenworth KT680 truck.
Meanwhile, SCS has also announced Euro Truck Simulator 2: Special Edition due for release on May 16th for £24.99. It will contain the main game along with the “Go East” expansion pack and exclusive paint jobs created by the developers.
