Yesterday, Polyphony Digital announced a period of online maintenance for Gran Turismo 5, which – inevitably – lead to C7 Corvette Stingray-related speculation.

Now, though, it's been officially confirmed that the new Chevrolet halo car will be making its undisguised gaming debut on the Playstation-exclusive racing sim on January 15th.

According to the accompanying press release, the attention to detail with the new Corvette Stingray's transfer from the real to the virtual world is to the standard you'd expect from Polyphony Digital – not only is the exterior and interior modelling as picture-perfect as you'd expect from a game on a current-gen console (as you can find out for youself in our screenshot gallery), but the team at Polyphony allegedly kept their eyes on some of the car's more inriguing technical aspects, such as the seven-speed manual transmission.

Ironically, a feature that wasn't present on the camouflaged Corvette Test Car that was added to the game in November. Though, in PD's defence, it's likely that Chevrolet wouldn't have wanted such info to be leaked out months before the car's world debut.

Kazunori Yamauchi, the Godfather of the GT series and a self-proclaimed Corvette fanatic (as of tomorrow, all seven Corvette generations will have featured in the various Gran Turismo games over the series' 16 year history), certainly seems pretty pleased with the Stingray's inclusion. According to Yamauchi-san, "The Polyphony team has had an unforgettable experience getting to know the Corvette Stingray, inside and out, and bringing it into Gran Turismo 5. We're excited to share our experience with fans and let them feel, explore and drive the Corvette in a way that wasn't possible until now."
