The release of the Next Car Game Technology Demo has whetted my appetite for destruction. This was my first chance to sample the revolutionary soft body deformation physics engine that will be powering the final game – potentially, this could set the new standard for car damage in racing games, as cars finally crumple and deform realistically at the exact point of impact.
This simple, aimless tech demo has brought me hours of entertainment. Watch as I crash my car in creative ways using the tools of destruction at my disposal dotted around the open playground:

Just to up the ante, the latest release added a physics cannon, allowing you to obliterate opponents and smash up the scenery with a variety of destructive weapons.
Environment destruction was first introduced in Ridge Racer: Unbounded, so it looks as if Next Car Game will develop on the foundation set in their previous project with considerable advancements. Whereas the first video was reminisant of the classic Destruction Derby games, this could easily pass as a remake of Twisted Metal or Vigilante 8:

t's just a pity we probably won't be seeing weapons in the final game. We can always hope for a mini game, right?
We'll have more Next Car Game gameplay videos for your viewing pleasure soon where we'll be taking a look at the Early Access Pre-Alpha build. Buckle your seatbelt – it's going to be a very bumpy ride.
