Game: Project CARS

Platform: PC, PS4, XBox One

Publisher: Bandai Namco

Release Date: 06/05/2015

We've been drooling over Project Cars' stunning screenshots for some time now, but were never able to actually sit down and play it for ourselves. Until now.

Thanks to Alan's new beefy gaming PC, we've finally managed to have our first hands-on with Slightly Mad Studios' much-anticipated PC sim, that's already been readily available in beta form to registered users.

First impressions are immensely positive. VIsually, we already know that Project CARS sets the graphical benchmark for PC racing sims, and it's staggering to think the final build is still a year away from completion.

We couldn't vouch on the physics, however. Frankly, we were rather worried – both Shift and Shift 2, Slightly Mad Studios' last high profile projects, were considerably dumbed down in the handling department. Thankfully, however, Alan's playtest reveals that this is not the case, as Project CARS handles superbly having been freed from the clutches of EA thanks to the independent funding from their unique World of Mass development scheme.

You can check out  Alan's first test runs with a Formula B car in our gameplay videos running at max settings:

Of course, now we're in possession of a souped-up gaming PC you can expect a slew of videos of all the major PC racing titles over the coming weeks, including rFactor 2 and netKar Pro plus upcoming sims such as Assetto Corsa and of course more coverage on Project CARS as it evolves up until the final release.
