BugBear is hoping to revoltionise our perceptions of vehicle damage in Next Car Game with its soft body deformation system that allows you to bend, buckle and dismember your car beyond recognition. And judging from the release of the playable sneak peek technology demo, it looks as if they will succeed.

The technology demo pitted you in a banger racer with free reign to explore an open vehicular playground, smashing into AI opponents in a destruction derby-esque environment or playing with the various tools of destruction dotted around the map to test the damage modelling. To showcase the damage modelling to its full effect, you could even torture your car by driving it through a working car crusher.

So successful was its release that BugBear has released a new version of the technology demo, adding more dynamic track-side objects including bunkers to bash into, more destructive machinery and new stunt ramps. The standout addition, however,  is the physics cannon, allowing you to fire missiles from your car into opponents and the destructible environment. It's a great showcase of BugBear's surprisingly complex physics work that shows great promise for the final game. Seemingly, no other game will offer as many creative ways to destroy cars.

Meanwhile, BugBear's crowd funding campaign is growing strong. Despite the recent cancellation of their Kickstarter campaign, over 5,600 players have pledged their support for Next Car Game, raising $179,366 at the time of writing. Anyone who pre-orders Next Car Game on the official website will contribute to their funding – many pay packages are available offering various perks. As demand for LAN features and PS4 and Xbox One ports continue to surge, BugBear also confirmed they will be reinstated stretch goals onto their website similar to the previous goals in the Kickstarter campaign.

You can watch the destruction unfold on VVV, as I'll be causing carnage in a video play-through coming soon.
