Sony Computer Entertainment and Polyphony Digital have shown off Gran Turismo 6's oft referenced GPS Data Visualiser feature in a side-by-side comparison trailer.

The trailer depicts two versions of the same Scion FR-S lapping the Streets of Willow complex at the renowned Willow Springs International Raceway: one the left is the real car as fitted with the ECU device that allows the data logger feature to work, and the oversteery laps on the right sourced from inside Gran Turismo 6.

For those who aren't fully aware of the GT6 GPS Data Visualiser and/or how it works, it's essentially a feature exclusive to the franchise that – in theory – will allow Gran Turismo players to showcase their laps on real circuits in real cars in the game, as long as the car and track are featured in the game and the vehicle's engine control unit, or ECU, supports such a feature.

Currently, only certain models of the Toyota 86/GT86 and Scion FR-S sports car come equipped with this device, but the overall aim to is use this feature to bridge the gap between driving cars in the real world and in racing games, as the Gran Turismo series has most prominently done in recent years with the GT Academy series.
