McLaren’s “World’s Fastest Gamer” esports competition will start in July at the world famous track of Silverstone.
The competition will see 10 virtual racers (six of which pre-selected by a panel of experts) battle it out over four qualifying events with the winner awarded the duty of McLaren's simulator driver for one whole year.
The first qualifying heat will use the RFactor 2 platform across a four-week period following the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, on July 16. The top 20 drivers will race each weekend, with points counting towards the Silverstone championship. The eventual winner will be given a place in the finale.
“Silverstone is a venue that’s synonymous with motorsport and is a great place to kick off our virtual racing contest," stated McLaren Technology Group Executive Director Zak Brown. "We’re looking forward to working together with Silverstone to help bring a new and younger audience into the motorsport world.”
Three other qualifying events will be held across several days at the McLaren Technology Centre for mobile and console players. McLaren will disclose more information on how to enter the qualifying events soon.
