DriveClub may have set the visual bar for PS4 racing games, (at least until Project CARS pulls alongside it), but ask someone how its social club racing premise sets it apart, and they'll most likely stare at you blankly with bewilderment.
A new series of videos explaisn exactly how DriveClub works to create an altogether different, more team-based online racing game experience. In essence, there are three core mechanics that power DriveClub: Clubs, Face-offs and Challenges.
Clubs allow teams of up to six players to compete against rival clubs, but you don't have to necessarily win first place in order to succeed – completing goals such as powersliding, beating rivals or slipstreaming contribute to your club's overall success. But I'll let this stylishly-animated official video explain the rest.

Co-operative play is therefore actively encouraged, but DriveClub still has many competitive elements. Face-Offs, for example, keep the competition fierce by directly comparing your performance with your rivals at designated spots of the track, while challenges ensure that that each race feels fresh.
