Oh dear. Get your facepalms at the ready, people.

As if the on-going DriveClub saga couldn't get any more embarassing, the long-delayed free-to-play DriveClub PlayStation Plus Edition was prematurely released today on the US PlayStation store eight months after the original game release – only for it to be promptly removed without notice.

While the situation must once again be highly embarassing on Sony's part (Sony's President of Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida's Twitter posting says it all), the leak does at least give us an insight of what to expect from the free trial, whenver it arrives.

You'll get to try the full raft of DriveClub feature set, including online challenges, photo mode, offline Tour mode, customisation and replays  completely free of charge, with access to 15 cars and 13 tracks from the India location and 27 trophies to unlock, including one platinum trophy. Players were then able to upgrade to the full version for a very reasonable sum of $25.

The situation is getting seriously shambolic, but at least it's looking like DriveClub PS Plus Edition will finally be arriving sooner rather than later. Will you be taking it for a spin, or do you feel it's too little too late?
