With rumors persisting that a new Test Drive Unlimited game could be on the way I thought it time to make a thread and bring together some of your feedback and memories of the series and share some of the aspects you would like to see considered for a new update on the franchise.

On a personal front I never got into Test Drive Unlimited, it came out at a time in 2006 when we were desperately bored with PGR3 having utterly rinsed the game over the previous year. A drought in racing games never to be repeated, TDU had great graphics, not as good as PGR but not bad given the open world nature of it all. But handling of the cars was lacking and at the time I just couldn’t get beyond this.

Roll on to 2011 and I got a very early hands-on TDU2, but this stage I had a rig and a G25 wheel and despite the functional graphics I had a ball just cruising round. The handling wasn’t great, the graphics were unimpressive and the whole game had a cheesy feel, like the developers were just having some fun along the way. But I enjoyed it for what it was and there are apects of it I would have loved to have seen in Forza Horizon.

Lets us know your thoughts on the TD series, what aspects would you most like to see in a future title in the series?

Ahh PGR 3 & 4..great memories! Love the PGR series and Bizarre Creations (RIP).

TDU was a solid but flawed gem; TDU2 was a rushed disaster thanks to Atari. Loved crusing around despite the car handling being awful.

Yes, TDU2 was trashy yet fun. There was something nice about the feeling of just cruising, driving for the enjoyment of driving despite the limited physics. Will be interesting to see what the new version comes out like.
