The Isle of Man TT is, without doubt, the greatest challenge for any biker, and the scale of the circuit is one of the greatest challenges for any game developer.
At over 37 miles long and consisting of 264 corners, this is a mighty challenge to be undertaken by any development team. Especially for Kylotonn; with no previous developments of this scale and only the dreadful Motorbike Club for reference, there were some concerns if they were going to be able to pull it off.
We first saw the game at last years E3, already the visuals were coming together but graphics looked decidedly unpolished, handling was barely started, and the circuit clearly lacked a lot of key details required by bikers in memorising this behemoth. Following a delay announced soon after E3 and we forward nine months to our current preview build, which is literally a night and day difference to any development builds previously revealed.
The team worked closely with biking legend John McGuinness in bringing together all important details for various reference points and have since announced the addition of 9 fantasy circuits. This supported with the inclusion of 23 riders and 40 bikes. A solid number to start with and I can safely say it is encouraging to see the difference in behaviour and personality of each bike. Has Kylotonn pulled it off?
First impressions are very positive, and the route they’ve taken in bike handling certainly leans towards a more reactive input which is developing in the right direction for a circuit of this scale.
