WRC5 will be the first licensed WRC game to host an official eSports World Rally Championship.
As stated in the official announcement, the eSports season will allow players to compete a full online WRC championship in 2016.
Each round will also be run in parallel to each round in the official 2016 World Rally Championship – meaning the WRC5 eSports season will commence on 21st January, at the Rallye Monte Carlo.
It's currently unknown how WRC5 players can qualify for a place in the 2016 eSports WRC championship, though it has been stated that applications will be open to anyone.
Likewise, it's yet to be said if this championship only applies to the top-tier WRC cars, or whether the WRC-2, WRC-3 and Junior WRC feeder categories will also be featured in the season.
The 2016 eSports WRC championship is being hosted by ESL, a leading eSports organisation that also runs the official eSports series for Project CARS.
