Volkswagen's contribution to Gran Turismo 6's Vision Gran Turismo programme has been fully revealed, ahead of its public debut next week at the Worthersee Festival in Austria.

Following in the footsteps of Volkswagen's Design Vision GTI from last year, the VisionGTI Roadster Vision Gran Turismo is officially described by VW as the "extreme and ultimate interpretation of the Golf GTI" that pays tribute to the seven generations of VW's hot hatchback that have come before.

For instance, the red metallic paint featured on the VisionGTI Roadster is said to be a "modern interpretation of the classic GTI colour".

Whilst VW has yet to quote an official kerb weight for the VisionGTI, the powertrain details allude to the car possessing impressive performance credentials: power comes from a twin-turbocharged 3.0 VR6 engine, with the motor's claimed 503hp and 491lb/ft of torque being distributed to all four wheels through a seven-speed DSG paddleshift transmission.

Other embelishments lead to VW stating the VisionGTI Roadster will possess "optimized roadholding on the track": motorsports-inspired details like the front splitter, rear diffuser and prominent rear wing all improve the car's overall levels of downforce, whilst gargantuan vented disc brakes (15 inches up front, 14 at the rear) should help with slowing the car down in heavy braking zones.

With the VisionGTI being a Roadster, this may also be the first Vision Gran Turismo car to feature some form of detailed interior (on the assumption that, unlike most of the convertibles in Gran Turismo 6, there is no retractable roof available on the VisionGTI) – Mercedes-Benz's pair of VGT models and the recently-released BMW VGT all feature a blacked-out silhouette interior view, with no sign of more detailed renderings being added in future updates.

The Volkswagen VisionGTI Roadster Vision Gran Turismo will be making its public debut next Wednesday (May 28th) at the Worthersee Festival, a car show that's dedicated to the culture of customising and tuning Volkswagens.

No details regarding when the VisionGTI Roadster will eventually be released in Gran Turismo 6 have been disclosed at time of writing.
