Fanboy wars, engage! Yes, the disparity between PS4 and Xbox One continues, as Trials Fusion is the latest multiplatform title to run at a higher resolution on PS4 than Xbox One.
A Ubisoft representative told Venturebeat that the PS4 version of Trials Fusion will run in native 1080p, whereas the Xbox One version lags behind at a native 900p upscaled to 1080p. Both versions will, however, run at a smooth 60fps, which is arguably more important.
A negligible difference, you might argue, but this isn’t the first cross-platform release to fare worse on Xbox One – both COD: Ghosts and Battlefield 4 run at 720p compared to 1080p on PS4 resulting in bad press for Microsoft during the launch of the Xbox One, adding fuel to the fanboy fire.
This is unfortunately common for third party cross platform releases. In contrast, exclusive first party releases such as Turn10’s Forza Motorsport 5 have no trouble running at 1080p and 60fps, so it’s not as if the Xbox One is incapable of meeting these standards.
Such disparity should be a thing of the past over time, though. After all, it was a similar story for launch of the current-gen consoles, except it was the PS3 that struggled to match the performance of the Xbox 360 in terms of cross-platform releases.
