Independent developer Ferocity 2D have recently made available their official Wacky Wheels reboot, known as Wacky Wheels HD, on Steam's Early Access programme.
This reboot of Apogee's 1994 classic kart racer features the usual array of powerups and tight and twisty courses found in the original however the reboot has some pretty HD cel-shaded style cartoon-like graphics. Check out some gameplay action below.
Comparisons to Super Mario Kart on the SNES will no doubt be all too common with some level designs and animations closely matching the SNES classic kart racer and that's certainly not a bad thing.
Wacky Wheels HD features 16 race tracks each with its own theme and contains four game modes: grand prix, time trial, combat and duck hunt. Up to 4 players can get into the action via local multiplayer split screen and the title features a remastered soundtrack of the original title.
Developer Ferocity 2D also have plans for 8 player online multiplayer support which sounds like a blast, we'll bring you more on the rebooted classic as soon as we know more.
