News ‘The Race Returns’: Could this be GRiD 2?

We've known for a while now that the crew at Codemasters Racing are busy away, working on a potential sequel to the critically acclaimed successor to the TOCA franchise, 'Race Driver: GRiD'. However, we've never had any official confirmation or hints from an accredited source (i.e. Codemasters themselves) that such a game is in the pipeline for a 2012 release.

That is, until now!

Codemasters has just released a new trailer for an upcoming racing game, with the sub-30 second reel proudly brandishing the title and Twitter hashtag 'The Race Returns'.

And, as expected from a teaser trailer, not much else is previewed – there's an August 8th date, which we'll assume is the game's reveal date, and plenty of mystifying panning shots of what appears to be a Pagani of some sorts burning some rubber on the starting grid.

Of most interest to us at Team VVV, though, is the big logo with the prominent '2' located slap bang in the middle of it. This obviously suggests it's a sequel to a Codemasters title, and the logo itself is very reminiscent of something we saw in the Race Driver: GRiD.

So, could this be the game we've been waiting for? Could this be the sequel to Race Driver: GRiD that we've been anticipating for the last few years? On these first impressions, it very much seems to be the case!
