The upcoming arcade racing game Team Sonic Racing has been officially announced, ahead of a launch this winter.
Developed by Sumo Digital (the studio behind the two Sonic All-Stars Racing releases), Team Sonic Racing places an emphasis on team-focused racing. Players will be required to work together with other members of their in-race team, through means such as defending them from opposing players and sharing the effects of speed boosts and power-ups.
It will also be possible for players to choose and refine their preferred play style in Team Sonic Racing. The game’s 15 playable Sonic universe characters are distributed amongst the title’s three classes: ‘Speed’, ‘Technique’ and ‘Power’. Furthermore, each character is availble with nine unique upgrades, which vary from visual customisation elements to handling improvements.
With such an emphasis on teamplay, Team Sonic Racing unsurprisingly boasts an array of local and online multiplayer modes. As well as featuring a Time Trial mode, the game will also contain support 12-player online and four-player split-screen local multiplayer races.
Team Sonic Racing will be released for the PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch platforms. A concrete release date isn’t known at time of writing, though publisher Sega has confirmed Team Sonic Racing will launch sometime this coming winter.
