It's been a somewhat quiet period for Assetto Corsa, with no news on the title to report on apart from a handful of car and track reveals.
Since then, Assetto Corsa has been Greenlit for release on Steam not long after the recent announcement of Project CARS' impending arrival on the popular platform. As well as giving Assetto Corsa the spotlight it deserves, making the game available on Steam will allow developer Kunos Simulazioni to provide better support with regular updates, fast downloads and additional content.
In other Assetto Corsa news, the legendary Spa Francorchamps Grand Prix track has been confirmed as the latest addition to Assetto Corsa's collection of circuits following on from the announcement of Vallelunga's appearance. Considering it's hosted the Belgian Grand Prix since 1924, it's surprising to find the famous circuit hasn't appeared in many racing games outside of Codies' F1 series, with notable appearances including Gran Turismo 5, Need for Speed: Shift and Project CARS.
A laser-scanned reproduction of the modern-day Spa Francorchamps layout will be included, along with an historical version said to be released at a later date to coincide with Assetto Corsa's assortment of classic racing cars.
Project & Licensing Manager commented: “Spa-Francorchamps represents for racing circuits what the Ferrari represents for car Brands: you simply cannot ignore it. Like Monza and Silverstone, it has been the theatre of some of the most beatiful races in motorsport, and we are very proud to get the chance to reproduce it at our best.”
The only downside is that Spa Francorchamps won't be part of the core game, and will instead be offered as part of Assetto Corsa's first Premium Pack DLC which will also bundle in a few additional cars.
It's not all bad news, though. For those of you asking exactly when Assetto Corsa will be released, Kunos has confirmed that preorder details will be announced soon. It therefore shouldn't be too long until we find out details about the final release date, pricing, content, features and system requirements. The aforementioned Premium DLC Pack will also be offered for free for those who preorder Assetto Corsa.
While we wait to hear exactly when we'll be able to play the final version, why not join in the discussion in our Assetto Corsa forum thread?
