News Sebastien Loeb considering taking on the Dakar

Just days before the arduous Dakar rally raid event begins, Sebastien Loeb has suggested that, with his WRC career set to end next year, he'd like to compete in the event.

However, if the Frenchman is to enter the Dakar rally at some point in the future, it'll purely be a private venture, having stated in an interview with Autosport Magazine that "this would be a private thing, it would not be something with Citroen".

Such a statement is a very intriguing one: not only has Citroen had success in rally raids over the years (indeed, it won the Dakar four times with its specially prepared ZX racers between 1991 and 1996), but because Loeb has obvious connections with the French firm.

That said, Citroen currently has no plans to return, so it's perhaps understandable that Loeb would want another, more committed partner to his plans for participating in the Dakar.
