Game: RGX Showdown

Platform: PS4, XBox One

Publisher: Telltale Games

Release Date: 18/09/2018

The futuristic racer RGX Showdown released (digitally) the other day for the PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

RGX (short for Rival Gears [e]Xtreme) Showdown is the sequel to the mobile racer Rival Gears. The futuristic racer is an online-only title which provides hourly online tournaments where you face off against a fellow player in one-on-one battles.

Check out the launch trailer below.

As you progress you’ll have the chance to climb the ranks, unlock additional craft and dabble in a bit of visual customisation with different colours and liveries on offer in exchange for Garage Points which are accrued from events and challenges.

The small development team Shortround Games apparently has ties to the excellent Split/Second and Burnout games so this may be worth checking out for fans of those series, especially if you enjoy a bit of online action.

RGX Showdown is currently available on the PlayStation Store and Xbox Games Store for £7.99.

It looks a bit too much like those arcade games without racecraft or mastery of cornering techniques.
I’m not a fan of racing game like Fast RMX, which feels more like a long quick time event on a lap-long loop to me.
In Wipeout or Mario Kart, you maybe never really need to brake, but a lot of times you still need to be on the racing line, get off the gas or use drift/air-brakes to be fast.

Still, the game LOOKS pretty cool and the price is not bad at all.
Also interesting that Telltale is the publisher.
