Nintendo has confirmed it'll be ending online support for the Mario Kart games on the Wii and DS consoles later this year.
As of May 20th, all online gameplay functionality – currently being cited as online gameplay modes and lap time leaderboards – for the Mario Kart Wii and Mario Kart DS titles will be officially terminated.
Online support for more lesser known Nintendo racing games, such as Excitebike: World Rally and Excitebots: Trick Racing for the Wii, and Diddy Kong Racing on the DS, will also have their online features cancelled on May 20th.
Nintendo iterates the point, however, that all the offline aspects of the various Wii and DS games that are affected by this widespread server shutdown will remain intact.
