Game: Nickelodeon Kart Racers 2: Grand Prix

Platform: PS4, Switch, XBox One

Publisher: GameMill Entertainment

Release Date: October 2020

It’s getting on for two years since the release of Nickelodeon Kart Racers, a very average racing game. It had some great characters and huge potential but ultimately corners were cut, resulting in a relatively cheap product sorely lacking in polish.

We streamed the game with our initial hands-on and was left unimpressed, however as the first game in a series, there’s always a chance that a sequel can pick up when the original left off and take it to the next level: enter the announcement of Nickelodeon Kart Racers 2: Grand Prix by GameMill Entertainment.

Nickelodeon Kart Racers 2: Grand Prix is being developed by Bamtang Games and features 30 playable characters including household names such as JoJo Siwa, SpongeBob SquarePants, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Korra of The Legend of Korra, Invader Zim, Hey Arnold!, the Rugrats crew, Lincoln of The Loud House and many more.

The colourful racer introduces the option of a pit crew featuring 70 bonus characters with the ability to race on 28 circuits as well as two battle arenas. This is supported with four-player split-screen and up to eight players online.

There’s clearly loads of content here to keep you entertained, however at present the graphics fail to impress. The idea is clearly targeted to a younger audience who may not be as bothered when it comes to technical achievement, yet I can’t help but feel many characters would appeal to an older audience if the production value was there. Still, there is time to improve all aspects between now and release. Nickelodeon Kart Racers 2: Grand Prix will race onto the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One this October.
