BugBear's Next Car Game certainly got our engines revving with its impressive damage modelling showcased in the technology demo. We couldn't help but be intrigued to how this will transpire in the final game.

Just in time for Christmas, BugBear has now unleashed an Early Access pre-alpha build of Next Car Game to everyone who preordered the game, offering a destructive sneak peak at the racing and demolition derby modes with three tracks and two cars to play with.

Kicking off our video coverage is an action-packed 24 car race on the gravel track. Even in its early state, it's clear that Next Car Game will capture the essence of FlatOut's no rules full contact racing action in spades.

From my first playthrough, what really stood out was the aggressive A.I. These fearless drivers are a mercilous bunch who will stop at nothing to take you out at every opportunity. They'll barge into each other just as frequently, too, resulting in absolute carnage at every corner. This makes the races chaotic and unpredictible, but also fun and exhilerating – you really have to fight for your position, which is refreshingly challenging. I whinced every time I narrowly scraped past multiple car pile-ups, AI drivers losing control and flipping cars soaring past me. It's a complete contrast to Gran Turismo 6 for example, which still has the same sterile A.I. devoid of any personality whatsoever.

Look out for more Next Car Game coverage coming soon, including a look at the insane demolition derby mode.
