With Codemasters back on form with DiRT Rally and WRC making a comeback this week with new developers behind the wheel, it's safe to say that we're experiencing rally fever right now. And about time, frankly – it's been years since we've been in a position where we have several rally IPs to choose from.

Last but hopefully not least is Sebastien Loeb Rally EVO, Milestone's new rally IP which was pushed back until next year whlie it undergoes some fine-tuning under the bonnet. Keen to remind us that its release is just around the corner, Milestone has unleashed a new trailer which finally confirms the final release date – the fact they happened to share that information on the day of WRC 5's release is obviously no coincidence.

Originally due this month, it turns out we don't have too long to wait as Sebastien Loeb Rally EVO will be sliding onto PS4, Xbox One and PC January 29th 2016.

Judging from the trailer, the extra development time appears to have paid off. VIsually, Sebastien Loeb Rally EVO is coming on in leaps and bounds, as the trailer showcases some very highly detailed tracks and car models – this is Milestone's best looking game to date by some margin. The fact this is the first Milestone game to finally ditch the last-gen consoles is also a factor.

The audio design is also sounding superb, assuming the car engines heard in the trailer are in-game. Compared to Milestone's previous efforts, these car engine sounds have an authentic quality to them instead of sounding artificial.

Course designs are looking tight and trecherous, and the car line-up is ecclectic – a classic Scooby, Mini Cooper, Lancia Stratos, Toyota Celica Alpine A110 are all given a workout in the trailer, but the final game will contain the largest assortment of rally cars in a game with 60 classic and contemporary cars.

Let's just hope Sebastien Loeb Rally EVO plays as good as it looks. If everything comes together, it could well keep players occupied until DiRT Rally eventually pulls up on console.
