Onrush had the potential to revitalise arcade racing for the current console generation. Sadly, it didn’t sell very well, resulting in redundancies at Codemasters Evo. Despite this, the developer will continue supporting the game with updates and post-launch content, however. Since Onrush slammed onto consoles in June, one of the most highly requested features from the community has been ranked online play. Teasingly, there was even a greyed-out option for it in the menus, with Codemasters promising to add the mode in a future update. Thankfully, that day has now come, as the new update has deployed on PS4 and Xbox One (the PC version is still coming at a later date).
For the next two weeks, players will be able to experience Ranked Mode in the Onrush Pre Season, offering the chance to earn new rewards including XP bonuses, credits and unique Tombstones.
During Pre-Season players will be able to take part in several ‘placement’ games to determine their skill level, and will be issued one of the following ranks:
Bronze: Jack, Queen, King, Ace
Silver: Jack, Queen, King, Ace
Gold: Jack, Queen, King, Ace
Platinum: Jack, Queen, King, Ace
This will prepare you for the main Summer Slam event starting on August 27, which will run for eight weeks unlocking new celebrations, new epic character outfits, new epic vehicle shells, new epic liveries, XP bonuses and new Tombstones.
“Ranked Mode is something the community have been asking for since day one, and we can’t wait for people to start battling it out to see who the best in the world is,” said Lead Designer Kris Pope. “In Ranked Mode, your rank will go up or down depending on how well you perform in-game. Winning as a team is, of course, the aim of the game, but individual achievements, such as the MVP award; will also help your ranking.”
“Each season will feature eight challenge cards, with a new card being unlocked every week,” he continued. “Each of these cards has three rewards that a player can earn by winning matches. Each win will earn the player 100 points towards each card. However, a player can increase the points they earn towards each card by unlocking seasonal win bonuses.”
Will the new Ranked Mode tempt you to take Onrush for another spin?
