EA has today revealed that their very latest incarnation in the Need for Speed series is called “Payback” and will be arriving on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC platforms on November 10 worldwide.
Need for Speed Payback features heist missions, car battles, explosive set pieces and, of course, those all-important cop chases. Payback is shifting the focus from finishing first in races to playing out your driving fantasies that you may have seen in your favourite car chase movies over the years.
“Need for Speed returns this year to challenge what players expect from racing games,” said Marcus Nilsson, Executive Producer. “We’re still delivering everything our fans love about the franchise – the deepest customization, an impressive roster of cars, intense races and open world pursuits – but with Need for Speed Payback, we’re bringing together all those elements in an all new blockbuster driving experience. From the story, to the different characters you can drive as, to the varied missions, to the edge-of-your-seat moments, this is our vision for what action driving entertainment means today.”
Payback is set in the fictional “Fortune Valley” which looks very much like a recreation of sorts of Las Vegas. You will embark on an adventure with three different characters as you take on “the House”, a nefarious cartel which controls just about everything in the city including the casinos, criminals and even the cops.
You play as Tyler, the Racer; Mac, the Showman; and Jess, the Wheelman to earn the respect of the underground. Payback features even deeper customisation options than found in any Need for Speed title before it. You can opt to create a personalised car of your own style or spend time finding and tuning an abandoned car into a thoroughbred supercar: the choice is yours.
Players that pre-order the game will receive the Need for Speed Payback Platinum Car Pack and get instant access to five uniquely customised and tuned cars at launch. The Car Pack includes the following:
- Nissan 350Z 2008
- Chevrolet Camaro SS 1967
- Dodge Charger R/T 1969
- Ford F-150 Raptor 2016
- Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport 2016
Players can also dive into the action before launch through EA Access and Origin Access, where members can play for up to 10 hours starting Thursday, November 2 with the EA Access and Origin Access Play First Trial. Need for Speed Payback Deluxe Edition owners will get their three-day early access starting Tuesday, November 7. Need for Speed Payback will be available worldwide on November 10 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Origin for PC.
