After teasing us last month, Milestone have now officially announced MXGP 2, confirming that we can expect the muddy sequel to land on PS4, Xbox One and PC in February 2016.
Milestone aims to capture "the heart of motocross," as illustrated in the announcement trailer depicting a beating mechanical heart constructed out of bike parts. Since MXGP 2 is still at an early stage of development, we sadly don't get a glimpse of any gameplay footage, as the trailer is mostly comprised of high octane live action footage of the MXGP championship – I thought Milestone's new game engine looked too good to be true.
Like Ride and MotoGP 15 before it, MXGP 2's headline new feature is the ability to fully customise your rider and bike for the first time in the series, along with the introduction of indoor arena events. Standard career and online modes will also return.

“Motocross is a thrilling and spectacular sport, bringing together a dynamic, enthusiastic community of fans, who are always ready to share their ideas for new features and ideas with us," Milestone's VP Luisa Bixio commented.
"After our experience with MXGP and its positive reception from critics and fans alike, we got to work on developing MXGP2. The passion that the development team working on the game are putting into every detail, and the expertise they have built up working on titles for the current generation of consoles, allows us to create a product that will satisfy the needs of all Motocross fans." Luisa Bixio concludes by inviting "everybody to warm up your engines, and get ready for an adrenalin-charged and passion-driven experience."
With MX vs Supercross Encore and FIM Speedway Grand Prix 15 also due to land later this year, there will soon be plenty of choice when it comes to two wheeled off-road racing games.
More details are expected to be revealed September 27th.
