Despite his departure from the German firm's Formula One team, it's understood that Michael Schumacher's assistance is to be retained by Mercedes-Benz.

According to Mercedes-AMG F1 team principal Ross Brawn, the seven-time World Champion will take on an "ambassadorial" role at the car maker, which will involve development work of the Mercedes-Benz road car range.

Brawn hinted, though, that Schumacher will perhaps be more inclined to fine tune performance cars, announcing "the development of models, particularly high-performance cars, is something he {Schumacher} enjoys very much".

Development and promotional work with automotive manufacturers isn't an alien concept to the former F1 driver: not only was he featured in the promotional campaign for the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG supercar, but Schumacher also famously played a part in the development of the Ferrari 430 Scuderia, and was a key supporter of the dual-mode adjustable suspension that eventually made its way onto the production car.
