McLaren’s Worlds Fastest Gamer has been one of the Esport highlights of 2017, and this week Logitech G held the UK qualifying event to find their local player who would go on to represent the UK at the European finals next week.
Throughout the Insomnia 61 event, players have been setting times with a Logitech G920 wheel on Forza Motorsport 6, using a McLaren GT3 on the Spa circuit. It’s a challenge just getting up Eau Rouge with the car moving around a lot on the limit and players were using all of the track available to them in maximising lap times, overall a high level of play was featured throughout.
I’ve been covering the WFG event since its inception and was invited along to present and commentate the Qualifier. The two finalists were closely matched and when on stage it adds a lot of additional pressure to perform. The winner ‘Issac’ eventually coming through with a strong a determined performance.
On a personal note it was an exciting event, very little time to prepare, it all went well, and I was very relieved with how the commentary went, it’s been a quite a few years since I last commentated Esports. But as soon as the action kicked off, I was back in there, in the cars with the guys, seeing it as they were and recognising how hard they were pushing and risks Issac was taking in maximising his speed. You can see more of my thoughts besides a brief look at the action from the event in the video below.
