LittleBigPlanet Karting was curiously absent from Sony's E3 conference, and we're struggling to see why – as this new trailer shows, United Front could be onto a winner.
Combining LittleBigPlanet's vibrant visuals and unbridled creativity with the kart racing action of ModNation Racers, LittleBigPlanet Karting aims to revolutionise the genre with an advanced suite of creative tools at your disposal to create your own tracks, weapons and scenarios.
Imagination seems to be your only boundary – only in LittleBigPlanetKarting can you seemingly race on a giant boxing glove, as exemplified by the trailer below:
Considering how incredibly advanced the level creator in LittleBigPlanet 2 was, we have high hopes for what this karting spin-off can do for the racing genre. Aside from Trackmania, it's a shame more high profile racing games don't tend to include track creation tools. Gran Turismo 5 and this year's Ridge Racer Unbounded attempted it, but it felt too half-hearted and rudimentary.
LittleBigPlanet Karting is scheduled for release later in the year. It will also support the newly announced and aesthetically-hideous PlayStation Move racing wheel controller.
If the final game turns out to be anywhere near as fun as the trailer portrays, then Sackboy has every reason to be smiling.
