Milestone surprised us earlier this year by announcing a new off-road racing IP called GRAVEL which sees a return to the more accessible arcade racing action compared to recent releases which have a more serious flavour.
Scheduled for release early next year (for the PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4), the game features a total of four racing disciplines which are very much the focus of the latest dev diary released by the development team which you can view below.
The “Off-Road Masters” competition will challenge players in the four disciplines of Cross-Country, Wild Rush, Speed Cross and Stadium Circuit. These events will see you racing all over the world, from the sun-drenched white beach environments to the less forgiving climes of Alaska.
Cross-Country events will see you racing from point A to B, and will see you tackle rough terrain complete with death-defying jumps and challenging high-speed turns. Wild Rush events are your circuit races, these wide tracks allow for good bumper to bumper action as you speed through forests and beaches trying to get the edge on your opponents.
Elsewhere, Speed Cross enables you to race on a combination of asphalt and dirt mimicking rallycross events. These narrow tracks present ample challenge and will see you trading paint with your rivals. Finally, the Stadium Circuit events see you racing on dirt completing large jumps and negotiating tight hairpin turns in a stadium setting.
GRAVEL has 18 environments and features 200 tracks and over 50 real-world licensed cars, ranging from Group B rally cars to trophy trucks. GRAVEL also boasts dynamic times of day and weather and a very impressive damage model.
