Recurring DiRT driver and master-of-sideways-driving Ken Block has made a name for himself with his exuberant Gymkhana videos – over 140 million people have watched the tyre-shredding 'hoonigan' fling his Ford Fiesta rally car around increasingly elaborate driving playgrounds, causing copious amounts of tyre smoke in the process. He's even successfully scared the living daylights out of Captain Slow.

For the unacquainted, here's a taste of what you've been missing:

For the forthcoming fifth instalment, Ken Block will be smoking the streets of San Francisco, in what is a clear departure from the usual enclosed sets. As this behind the scenes clipi shows, we can therefore expect obligatory slow motion car ballets around city trams:

It certainly sounds like Gymkhana 5 will up the ante with its new city setting – Ken Block has also promised a mystery guest appearance as well as a few world records for good measure just to ramp up the anticipation.

“I wanted to build on the ultimate playground concept from Gymkhana THREE, and bring the franchise back to that raw and fast feel that the earlier videos had," Ken Block commented. "I’ve always wanted to film a Gymkhana video in a city and there are few places as unique and iconic with such amazing topography as San Francisco. While movies like Bullit and various chase scenes have tried to use San Francisco to the fullest, I’m pretty confident that I’ve proven there was a lot left to be done on those amazing streets!”

Of course, for car lovers San Francisco should be synonymous with the famous Bullitt chase, so we can surely expect a few passing references. Preferably, a spot of drifting around a fleet of green Volkswagen Beetles that convieniantly appear in every other shot.

Gymkhana 5 will go live on the DC Shoes Youtube channel July 9th.
