If you're someone who brushes up on the motor industry every day, it's likely you'll know that Jaguar's been developing a new performance flagship for the XF saloon range – the XFR-S – for the last few months.

It seems, though, that the gestation period has finally come to an end, as Jag's set to unveil the finished product at next week's LA Motor Show.

However, Jaguar's keeping the details of the car quite close to its chest – only one teaser shot has been released so far, and all we can deduce from it is that the XFR-S will feature a more sporting and aggressive bodykit over the standard XFR's, along with a subtle smattering of carbon fibre.

We do, though, expect it to pack one helluva punch – given rivals such as the BMW M5 and Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG all have over 500bhp at their disposal, we wouldn't be surprised if the 542bhp supercharged V8 from the XKR-S has been shoehorned into the engine bay.

We also wouldn't be surprised if it ends up being a tad lighter than the 1.9 tonne XFR on which it's based. Not by much, we'll add (opulent super-saloons tend to be quite heavy), but we're sure the engineers up in Coventry have been able to relieve the XFR-S of a few kilos here and there.

Until the LA Motor Show, though, that's all we can talk about for now. Don't fret, though – as we said earlier, the event opens to the public next week, so the wait for all the tech specs, press pics and promo videos shouldn't be too long…
