iRacing.com announced yesterday that it has secured a new licensing agreement with Rockingham Motor Speedway to bring the track to their popular PC racing sim iRacing. A team of laser scan technicians and photographers have already traveled to the English track to begin the task of capturing every nook and cranny.

The laser scanning techniques used by the iRacing dev team will bring Rockingham's many oval and road course configurations into the virtual realm with an accuracy of within 2 mm of their real-life counterparts.

The 1.48m Rockingham track opened in 2001 and features a NASCAR style oval and multiple road courses, combining the two allows for Rockingham to have over ten different configurations, all of which are expected to be included in iRacing.

Adding Rockingham to iRacing's extensive track list brings the laser-scanned track count very close to 70. Rockingham will join other British circuits such as Brands Hatch, Donington, Oulton Park and Silverstone. We have no details regarding release dates for the track as it is still early days, we'll bring you more on this however as soon as new details become available.

Are you looking forward to tackling Rockingham's many different circuit layouts?
