Start your engines! It's the moment GT fanatics have been waiting for, as today marks the start of Polyphony's latest quest to find new racing talent in the 2012 GT Academy.

This year's tournament is more accessable than ever, arriving on the PSN today as a free download for eager players who don't own GT5, whilst expanding entry to 15 countries:

Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxemburg

UK and Ireland

The United States of America

The downloadable mini-game comprises of eight qualification rounds, each designed by Kaz Yamauchi himself to test a required racing skill, with one released every two weeks until June 14th. Coming first, second or thid will unlock a multitude of cars and goodies for GT5 before the final deciding round. 16 players across each region will then embark on a real-life racing journey of intensive training and a chance to drive for Nissan in the 2013 Dubai 24 hour race.

The GT Academy has proven successful over the past three years, changing sofa-bound gamers into fully fledged racing drivers competing across the globe. Lucas Ordonez, the first ever winner of the GT Academy, for example, went on to win a podium position in the grueling Le Mans 24 Hour Race. Likewise, last year's winner Bryan Heitkonner finished third in the Dubai 24 hour race in January.
