Game: Forza Motorsport 5

Platform: XBox One

Publisher: Microsoft Studios

Release Date: 22/11/2013

As part of Microsoft's E3 conference, Forza Motorsport 5 was given a more extensive showing following last month's reveal, including an on-stage demo, an obligatory new trailer and details on how FM5 will utilise Xbox One's online cloud technology.

After a brief history lesson on McLaren and the surprise appearance of a P1 in the flesh, Dan Green took to the stage to talk about one of FM5's new innovations for the franchise.

Dubbed as 'Driveatar,' this new system will analyse your performance, do some witchcraft and adapt the AI accordingly through Xbox One's online Cloud technology, utilising data based on other player's driving styles to make the computer opponents more humanlike. In Dan's words, this will signal "the end of A.I."

The Cloud technology will also learn your car and colour scheme preferences, and offer recommendations for user-generated content accordingly.

Unsurprisingly, a new trailer has been released to accomapony the announcement. And unsurprisingly, it looks sublime. The street circuit last seen in the teaser trailer is heavily featured again, but this time we get to see some of Forza's legendary multi-car track action.

According to the trailer, FM5 will feature "hundreds of cars," though this comes as no surprise given the high car count in previous games of the franchise.

Among the new cars seen include a Ferrari F12berlinetta, Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4, Aston Martin Vanquish, Audi R8, McLaren MP4-12C and Koenigsegg Agera- all of which appeared in last year's Forza Horizon. There's therefore a good chance we can expect Forza Horizon's entire car roster to appear in FM5, although you have to wonder if there will be as many cars included as FM4 considering the relatively short development time and the additional work required to model FM5's exquisitely detailed car models for Xbox One.

Oh, and open wheel race cars have also been confirmed for FM5 – a first for the Forza franchise. Microsoft promise that FM5 will offer the most diverse roster in the series to date, but more intriguing is the mention of 'unique careers' which allow you to take your favourite cars on a journey through their place in motorsport history, as well as highlighting their greatest strengths and notorious rivals.

Again, you have to watch the video a few times to soak in the astonishing attention to detail, such as the specs of dirt accumulating on the bodywork.

There's also a hint that FM5 will feature improved damage judging from the trailer, which is now said to be dynamic and tyre and debris will litter the track.

Disappointingly there's still no word on dynamic weather and day/night cycles – hopefully they're saving that announcement for a later date.

We also got a glimpse of FM5's new Autovista, now called ForzaVista as showcased in the video below:

Oh my word. I could blather on for an eternity with superlatives about how Turn10 have crafted the most ridiculously realistic car models ever seen in a video game, but it's the other elements such as the impeccable light sources, serene backdrop and the soothing soundtrack that complete the package allowing you to soak up the ambience. In other words, this is what car heaven must be like.

Sadly, Turn10 didn't disclose any details on the physics engine. Reading through a factsheet reveals that the simulation physics have been in developed in conjunction with Calspan and top world manufacturers, however.

Turn 10's partnership with Top Gear is set to continue, too. Indeed, its implementation looks more fleshed out in FM5 with dedicated unique challenges hosted by 'The Stig's Dedicated Cousin' and power laps on the test track. Jeremy Clarkson lended his vocals talents in FM4 to offer his unique insight on the automotive industry, and in FM5 he will be joined by Richard Hammond and James May who will also provide voiceovers.

Meanwhile, some shiny new screenshots have surfaced fresh from E3 in what can only be describe as car pornography for us to salivate over:
