Whilst we're still a while away from knowing what the Rally Expansion Pack will represent, other than the fact it'll be a "pure experience", we do at least have the details of the upcoming December IGN Car Pack.

And this one's pretty special. Not only does it come with some pretty epic performance cars, but – as befitting of a DLC pack that's endorsed by a gaming website – there's a seventh additional car that's linked to Halo.

Ford F-150 Raptor Halo Edition

See, we told you Master Chief would approve! Granted, it hasn't got ice-crusted tyres or an AA gun mounted on top, but when you've got a mighty V8 and one of the mightiest exhaust notes on any pick-up, what's not to like?

To differentiate this particular one from the regular Ford Raptor in the game, this one's had a custom paint job designed by 343 Industries, the gaming studio who developed the critically acclaimed Halo 4 game.

If you're a die-hard Halo fan who coincidentally also adores Forza Horizon, then we think this might just be worth adding to your in-game car collection.

Aston Martin DBS

The new Vanquish and Skyfall's DB5 may have been stealing all the headlines as of late, but don't forget about the DBS. Yes, it's no longer in production, but anyone who drove it Forza 3 and Forza 4 will know it's a pretty epic piece of kit.

With a 5.9 V12 (don't believe the Aston folk – it's not a 6 litre engine!) up front, channelling its 510bhp through the rear wheels, it'll most likely make mincemeat of all the tight hairpins you'll encounter in the game.

Being a grand tourer at heart, though, so it's perhaps one of the perfect cars you can navigate all the game's roads or find the barn finds in.

If you want your GTs to have a bit more punch, then the next car on the list might be more to your liking…

Ferrari F12 Berlinetta

"Overkill", "bringing a gun to a knife fight", "excessive"…these are a handful of words and phrases that perfectly summarise the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta.

With its latest grand tourer, Ferrari really has pushed the boat out. The 6.3 V12 develops 730bhp, which is more than what a Pagani Huayra has at its disposal, some of the most exquisite materials known to man are used in its construction and its makers claim the F12 is comfortably the fastest point-to-point Ferrari ever made.

Oh, and if we do say so ourselves, it looks the absolute business.

In fact, maybe we should add two more words to that little list we started a few sentences ago: "utterly magnifiscent".

Ford GTX1

It's safe to assume that, when they finished work on the GT supercar, Ford's talented bunch of engineers assumed that most buyers would be satisfied with it only being available as a hardtop.

A bloke called Mark Gerisch, though, wasn't. Which is why, for the 2006 SEMA show, he turned the GT into a targa, and renamed it the GTX1.

Whilst the 550bhp supercharged V8 was left untouched (Gerisch must have reckoned the performance was suitable enough), the exhaust was changed, and the roof was lopped off and replaced with a set of adjustable panels.

It seems, though, that Turn 10 and Playground Games weren't bothered to render all those extra components, so the GTX1 will be available in its roofless guise you see here.

When it looks this cool, though, it's not exactly a bad thing, is it?

Hummer H1 Alpha Open Top

And now time for another open-top American car. However, whereas this one most likely wouldn't win any SEMA awards, it would be able to triumph over any terrain you could care to think of.

And, as a result, be able to conquer the multitude of dirt trails in Forza Horizon without breaking a sweat.

The gearing's also different for this type of Hummer H1 – the ratios are shortened slightly, and there's an extra cog in the transmission – so it's perhaps a little bit faster than Forza 4's Hummer.

Don't go thinking this is now a performance car, though, It weighs the thick end of three tonnes. So, unless you're feeling very talented, we don't think it's the vehicle of choice for online races or events that require you to evade a chaser of some sort…

McLaren F1

If you know your cars, then it's likely you know all too well about the McLaren F1 and, as such, you won't need an introduction to the British supercar.

If you're not familiar with the mighty Macca, though, then you only need to know it's one of the greatest performance cars ever made. Designed from the outset to be the purest driving machine ever conceived and fitted with one of the finest engines (a 6.1 BMW-designed V12, if you're wondering) ever put in a road car, it shouldn't be too surprising to hear many people reckon it's one of the top cars from the 1990s.

Put simply, if we were told we could only have one car in the IGN DLC Pack, we'd be seriously consider picking this one over the rest. Even though the McLaren F1 GT is already in Forza Horizon…

AMC Javelin-AMX

AMC is know for quite a few cars, and some of them such as the Pacer for all the wrong reasons. A few, though, were pretty decent, and one of the firm's greatest ever hits was the Javelin pony car.

In AMX trim, this proved to be quite an impressive car for the time, with its maker going as far to say it was "the closest thing you can buy to a Trans-Am champion". Whilst that was debateable – the racer didn't have to deal with lugging about passengers and their luggage – there was no denying that its monstrous 6.6, 335bhp V8 gave it pretty potent pace for the era.

Fast forward forty or so years, and the AMC Javelin has become one of today's most desirable American pony cars. Which, if you ask us, certainly makes it a worthy addition to Forza Horizon.

So, that's the December Car Pack all summarised up. Let us know what you make of it, and tell us if you'll be getting any or all of the cars in the pack.

Oh, and keep your eyes peeled on our news page for more Forza Horizon announcements – with the Rally Expansion Pack just around the corner, it's only a matter of time before we get the full low-down on it!
